Weeks 13 and 14 of Austin Marathon Training

Week 13 was a big week: the week I felt like I was really going to be able to run this marathon. I ran 20 miles on Saturday! My training hasn’t been nearly where I would have wanted it to be at this point, but I finished 20 miles and felt pretty good afterwards, so I am going to call that a WIN.

Week 13

Monday – Ice tub + compression sleeves at Athletic Outcomes

Tuesday – 4 miles + Restorative Yoga class at Sukha Yoga

Wednesday – 5 miles

Thursday – 3 miles

Friday – Rest

Saturday – 20 miles of the marathon course with Austin Runners Club

I joined ARC for their long run at 7am so that I would have company for 3.5 hours of running, and also because they were running most of the marathon course! It was great to preview the course and its major hills (there are many!) It was also a good confidence-booster that although I was totally exhausted, I felt good physically after running 20 miles. I felt much better than I did after 18 the weekend before; my cool down after the 3M Half Marathon really did me in.

That being said, I napped for 2.5 hours after my 20-miler, and it was glorious.

Sunday – 2 mile bike to yoga at the Patagonia store and back, 3 mile recovery run

TOTAL – 35 miles

Week 14

Monday – Rest

Tuesday – 5 miles

Wednesday – Rest

Thursday – 3 miles

Friday – Rest

Saturday – 16 miles

Technically I was tapering, but I still wanted to get in a long run since my only marathon-length long runs up until this point had been one 18-miler and one 20-miler. I joined ARC again for their Saturday morning run and we did the first 6 miles of the marathon course, and then 7 miles on the trail around the river. I did an extra 3 to get to 16 miles, and decided to do the end of the marathon course.

There is one infamous hill at the very end of the race on 11th Street, exactly at Mile 26, that is just brutal. I wanted to run it at the end of a long run so that I would be at least a little prepared for what was to come!

Saturday’s 16-miler, including the very beginning and the very end of the marathon course

Sunday – Rest: a dip in Barton Springs Pool because it was 75 degrees (!) and “High Mileage Reset” video from Jasyoga

TOTAL – 24 miles

Aaaaaaand now it’s time to taper!
