For Week 5 of Austin Marathon training, I ran less than my training plan prescribed, in an attempt to do a mini-taper before the Rock n’ Roll San Antonio Half on Sunday. It was a nice easy week but I’ll definitely have to ramp it back up next week!
Monday – Rest
Tuesday – 4.7 miles at Austin Runners Club track workout (3 x 1600m)
This was a fun workout. The first mile we ran as fast as possible (7:15); then an “Indian Run” mile (which probably isn’t the most PC term?) in which you run in a group of 6-8 people single file, and the last person sprints to the front, over and over for 1 mile; then finished with a marathon goal pace mile, in which I was aiming for 9:05 but ended up running 8:44.
Wednesday – BodyPump class (weights), plus biking 2 miles there and back
Thursday – 3.5 miles easy
Friday – Rest
Saturday – Rest

Sunday – 13.5 miles at the Rock n’ Roll San Antonio Half Marathon
WOW this was a tough race. I didn’t really have ambitious time goals for this one because of the predicted heat and humidity, and sure enough, it was a slog. I ran with my friend Nicole which really helped keep my spirits up, and we ended up running 2:02. A far cry from my 1:49 PR, but I’m not sure how I could have run any faster! I was just happy to have finished.
Total for the week: 22 miles (almost)
