Week 6 of Austin Marathon Training

Whew, what a week! I wasn’t planning on racing two half marathons on back-to-back weekends, since I was still recovering from the Rock n’ Roll San Antonio Half earlier this week, but I won an entry to the Decker Challenge Half on Instagram, so I couldn’t turn it down!

Monday – Rest (10-minute ice bath + compression boots felt great after the half marathon the day before)

Tuesday – 6 miles

Wednesday – Rest (unintentional, but couldn’t fit anything else in on a 14-hour work day)

Thursday – 4 miles on the treadmill + kettle-bell workout + steam room…because it was SNOWING.

Snow. In Texas. It was crazy! I went for a quick walk in the snow to take some pictures…more than anything else, I wanted a photo of a cactus covered in snow!

Friday – Rest – SNOW DAY!!!

Despite the fact that it didn’t stick, school was cancelled because the roads were expected to freeze and there aren’t any salt trucks here. I’ve never loved Texas more than when I got the email on Thursday night saying school was cancelled!

Saturday – 3 miles + yoga (shakeout run at Rogue Running)

Sunday – 13 miles at the Decker Challenge Half Marathon

TOTAL – 26 miles

The weather ended up being perfect for the Decker Challenge – 40 degrees and sunny at the start, pretty much the polar opposite of the previous weekend in San Antonio –  so I just decided to run as fast as I could despite the crazy elevation, and see what happened. We ended up running 1:56 on a SUPER hilly course. I’ll post a full recap of the race, but here’s the elevation as a teaser…you can see what I mean!
