As I mentioned in my last post, I just joined ClassPass and can’t wait to start taking advantage of it now that I’m on summer break and my schedule is wide open! I signed up for ClassPass base, which means I can take 5 classes per month. That only leaves me with 15 classes in NYC before I move to London!
I started doing my research over the weekend and explored some of the studios available in the NYC area. I really want to make sure I take unique and challenging classes, rather than just stick to my old standbys like yoga, especially when there are free yoga classes in NYC parks during the summer. I want to make sure I get the most out of my 15 classes and take some that I never would have considered!
This past weekend I did my first class since joining, a SUP Fitness class with Paddle Diva in East Hampton. The classes are $75 full-price but included in ClassPass memberships (plus a $10 board/paddle rental fee) – what a deal!
When I did a ClassPass trial way back in November (but didn’t join because I was about to start marathon training) I took a few unique classes but mostly stuck with yoga, barre and spin. You can read my review of those classes here.
Here are some of the most unique classes and studios in NYC I’ve come across so far that I’m planning on going to this summer, in no particular order:
AntiGravity Lab (Garment District) – Aerial Yoga classes
Doonya (NoMad) – Bollywood dance fitness classes
STREB @ S.L.A.M. (Williamsburg) – Trapeze! (After my trapeze lesson on the west side highway, I am so excited to try it again!)
trampoLEAN (Garment District) – trampolean fitness classes (I wanted to try this during my November trial but didn’t make it, looks so fun)
ChaiseFitness (Flatiron) – BalletBungee (That just sounds cool.)
New York Pole Dancing (Hell’s Kitchen) – Beginner Climb & Spin (also on my list from November but didn’t make it!)
Aerial Arts NYC (Midtown East) – So many cool classes! Hammock, static trapeze, handstands, silks, even hula hooping! I have a feeling I’ll be taking more than one here.
CityRow (Greenwich Village) – Okay, rowing classes aren’t very unique, but I’ve never done one, so it’s on the list.
RJ Valentin’s Deep Water Running (Midtown East) – water running is really for when you’re injured and can’t run, but I’m curious about this class so I might try it anyway!
AQUA Studio NY (Tribeca) – Spin classes in a pool!
SurfSET (Bowery) – I tried a beginner surf fitness class in November so I want to go back and try the intermediate level class, or a [stationary] SUP yoga class.
Other than ClassPass, I started taking advantage of free yoga classes around the city, like yoga in Bryant Park:
Every year on the summer solstice there’s a day of yoga classes in Times Square! I went this year with my friend Carly.
We also saw a beautiful summer solstice sunset that night:
